The clipper ship “City of Adelaide” is currently located in Scotland, The project to return the world’s oldest clipper ship, the ‘City of Adelaide’, to Port Adelaide has reached an important milestone with the completion of the base of a giant 100 tonne steel cradle.

Boweng together with our client McDowell have been able to design and build very effective solutions to complex temporary works such as cofferdams and a floating installation jig for the very long and slender apron straps.

Due to the size of the units (6 m wide, 8 m long and 4m in height), the manufacturing methodology had to reflect the awkwardness of moving these units.

This job necessitated the manufacture of 5 pedestrian bridges consisting of 10 girders in total, each approx 25m long.

Mechanical design to allow safe access to the train roof had to be correct.

Manufacture methodology was designed for efficiency to benefit our client.

Conversion of old imperial, outdated design into a new streamlined design reflective of available modern technologies and processes.

Transport of these 20+ items was the key to achieving a successful outcome.

Bowhill were instrumental in developing a modular skid and tank design to suit the purposes of this build for our client.

By fabricating and coating the significant main horizontal deck in one piece, it allowed quick site installation, minimal coating damage and the ability to pre-install the handrail panels off site, ensuring no fit up issues.
