Advertising early in 2020 for a Trainee Receptionist, we were surprised to receive an application from a school student completing Year 12 studies.  Cheyenne impressed us on interviewing by being able to provide clarity on her SACE completion position and desire to continue learning and complete her Certificate III Business Administration studies started at school through the traineeship offered.

Cheyenne was informed, organised and displayed great self-motivation at the interview, previously having discussions with her School Student Pathways Leader, she was aware her SACE requirements were already met and that she had the opportunity to commit to the Traineeship on offer.

These personal strengths helped Cheyenne with the support of Bowhill Engineering complete her learning online during covid attendance restrictions.  Here is Cheyenne’s own story …

I started my journey at Bowhill Engineering in May 2020. I was in year 12 completing my school studies at Unity College and working part time at Mannum IGA when I saw the advertisement for an opportunity to work as a Trainee Receptionist at Bowhill Engineering. This Traineeship included studying for a Certificate III in Business Administration, which I had already started at Tafe in December 2019 as part of my school studies.

Being in my final year of school, I had to start thinking about my future and what I wanted to do once I graduated. Seeing that Bowhill Engineering was hiring for a Trainee Receptionist and offering the Certificate III in Business and Administration, the position seemed perfect for me. I then applied for the Traineeship and a week later I started in the role.

I have since been able to Graduate Year 12, as I had completed my SACE before taking on the traineeship, and 18 months later completed my Certificate III in Business Administration.

After my Traineeship ended, I moved into an Administration Assistant role for a short period but naturally transitioned into a WHSE Assistant role with a new Quality Team forming. Through this role, I have had the opportunity to be on the Production floor, learning and being a safety representative and support for the Workshop Staff. I took on roles such as RTW Coordinator/First Aider and Hazard Committee Representative. Not only do I have general WHSE focused aspects of my role, I also get the opportunity to manage Production/STF Consumables.

Traineeships are considered annually, further information is available via
