At Bowhill Engineering, we understand the importance of addressing energy costs and sustainability in today’s business landscape. As a family-owned South Australian business specialising in structural fabrication, we have always been keenly aware of our bottom line.
With electricity costs being one of our highest expenses and growing customer demand for sustainable practices, we saw an opportunity to innovate and lead by example.
The Challenge
While we have always been committed to innovation, we lacked the internal energy and sustainability expertise to navigate the complex solution landscape and identify a clear path forward.
Our Solution: The Sustainable Energy Commitment
To address these challenges, we partnered with the South Australian Business Chamber and joined the Sustainable Energy Commitment (SEC), an energy management system tailored for SMEs like ours.
With the support of an energy transition consultant and a powerful digital platform, we embarked on a journey to understand our baseline energy usage and identify key areas for improvement.
Our Achievements
Since joining the Sustainable Energy Commitment we have made significant strides in our energy transition. By developing a clear strategy and effectively managing the execution of our energy transition plan we’ve achieved impressive results.
Here are some of the key milestones we’ve reached so far:
- Energy Transition Score: Achieved a score of 30
- Energy Cost Reduction: Reduced energy costs by more than 15%
- Energy Usage Reduction: Reduced energy usage by more than 11%
As Jodie Hawkes, our CEO, puts it, “The outcomes of our Sustainable Energy Commitment have been humongous. I love the outward-facing portal that shows us and our customers where we started, where we are now, and where we want to be.”
Our journey with the Sustainable Energy Commitment has demonstrated the power of embracing sustainability. By leveraging the expertise provided by the SEC, we have not only improved our bottom line but also strengthened our reputation for environmental responsibility.
We hope our success story inspires other businesses to navigate their energy transition. To learn more about the Sustainable Energy Commitment program, you can visit the South Australian Business Chamber’s page here.
