Jorge Barnes’ journey with Bowhill Engineering began during a school tour with his Certificate II Engineering class. From the moment he stepped into the workshop, Jorge showed genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for the trade, taking a strong interest in the scale and impact of the projects Bowhill Engineering delivers.
What initially captured Jorge’s attention were the major infrastructure projects Bowhill Engineering has been involved in, including the Flinders Link, Darlington Bridge upgrades and the Regency Road overpass. Seeing real-world projects that contribute to South Australia’s transport network helped him connect his classroom learning with hands-on outcomes.
Following the school tour, Jorge completed work experience at Bowhill Engineering in September 2025. During this time, he embraced the opportunity to learn through practical, hands-on experience alongside qualified tradespeople. He was eager to ask questions, observe different processes, and gain a deeper understanding of what a future apprenticeship could look like. What we loved was Jorge’s smile & enthusiasm.
Outside of work, Jorge enjoys staying active and social. He plays tennis, football and basketball.
Jorge’s story is a great example of how early engagement through school tours and work experience can inspire the next generation of skilled tradespeople and highlight the importance of a supportive workplace culture.
