Our enormous Inland Rail Bridge Project was undertaken to support the construction of a critical bridge structure, located in Broadford, Victoria.
Bowhill Engineering presented two successful completions of two high-strength steel girders; each girder measuring 36.7m in length by 1.2m wide and 3.309m high. And weighing a whopping 70.3T each!!

The project scope involved the fabrication, delivery, and successful installation of key structural element of the rail bridges.
The success of this project was led by Project Manager Justin McLean and Production leader Braden Gregory, working closely with our client and the team at John Holland, to meet delivery schedule and ensuring the Girders met all specifications and standards.
And although It had It’s various day-to-day operational challenges and pressures, together with consistency, upholding strong morals, work ethics, honesty and accountability is something we can confidently express and be proud of, of our team, in helping make this project reach every step towards preparing final stages.

~ “We do what we say we are going to do” runs strong throughout Bowhill Engineering. Effective planning, coordination, and execution across all levels, meant the delivery and installation were completed without incident, meeting both safety and quality expectations with key highlights:
- Timeline & Execution: To meet and ensure no delays to the broader Bridge construction timeline, the girders were delivered and installed as scheduled.
- Team Effort: This achievement was made possible by the tremendous effort and commitment, collaboration, and dedication from everyone involved in the project — from our production team in the office, to fabrication floor to final delivery and installation.
- Client Collaboration: Strong communication and partnership with John Holland, contributed significantly to the smooth progression of this project.
But of course, huge mention and thank you goes to Nadia, Paul, and Tyron from Hi-Spec, as well as Troy and Warrick from RJA. We are so grateful for their collaborative efforts which were instrumental in making the delivery of these girders a reality. This simply wouldn’t have been possible without their true dedication and teamwork.

While no significant safety or environmental concerns were reported, the team remained vigilant and committed to high safety standards throughout. Any logistical and operational challenges encountered during production or transport were proactively managed to avoid delays or rework.
Furthermore, the successful completion of the Inland Rail Bridge Girders here at Boweng, marks another milestone in our continued collaboration with John Holland and enhancing our expertise and capability in delivering exceptional structural components for critical infrastructure.
With the Girders now installed, the next stage will focus on the continued progress of the bridge superstructure and overall project completion.
