About The Regency To Pym Project

The Regency Road to Pym Street project is a major component of the North South Corridor South Road Superway, one of the largest road infrastructure investments in South Australian history. The project forms part of a long-term plan to create an uninterrupted, motorway-standard route through metropolitan Adelaide, removing traffic lights and at-grade intersections along one of the city’s most congested and freight-critical corridors.

Bridge Girder Fabrication Requirement

The elevated road structure required significant structural steel fabrication capability. Bowhill Engineering was engaged to fabricate 120 bridge girder sections with a combined weight of 1,500 tonnes, delivering a scope that demanded precision at every stage from early design input through to final surface treatment and transport logistics.

Construction was carried out by McConnell Dowell and Bardavcol, with Bowhill’s steelwork forming the structural backbone of the completed superway infrastructure.

Our Solution

Early design optimisation helped set this project take off in the right direction. The macro level trade considerations such as mill plate sheet size availability, cross section and girder length/weight limitations, and weld joint design were discussed early at the main contractor tender stage.

Bowhill were happy to provide this early input with no obligation and extend this service to other contractors who would like macro level trade focused feedback on concept designs.

Projects of this scale and complexity don’t leave room for late-stage design changes. Our early design engagement demonstrated how front-end collaboration with the principal contractor produces better outcomes for everyone involved.
