Case Study – Ben – General Manager Quality
Ben’s journey at Bowhill Engineering is a great example of how investing in people, learning and development can create opportunities for both individual and business growth.
Ben joined Bowhill Engineering after spending 17 years in the grain industry, where he worked his way through a variety of roles from Harvest Casual to Operations Coordinator. Looking for a better work/life balance and a workplace that aligned with his values, Ben was drawn to Bowhill Engineering’s strong culture, values and commitment to the local community.
Although Ben’s previous experience was largely operations focused, he brought with him a sound understanding of workplace health and safety and joined Bowhill in the newly created role of WHSE Coordinator.
As part of his development, Bowhill supported Ben to undertake a Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety through a traineeship. He was provided dedicated time during his working week to complete his studies, allowing him to build his knowledge while continuing to contribute to the business.
Returning to study as an adult presented some challenges initially, but Ben quickly found his rhythm. The traineeship strengthened his understanding of WHS legislation, consultation requirements and, importantly, the responsibility everyone within a workplace has for creating a safe and supportive environment.
Ben’s development didn’t stop with the completion of his traineeship.
His capability, leadership and understanding of the business saw him progress from WHSE Coordinator into the role of Quality Manager, where he took on broader responsibility across quality, safety and the development of his team.
From there, Ben has continued to grow as a leader and is now General Manager Quality at Bowhill Engineering.
In his role as General Manager Quality, Ben has a much broader influence across the organisation. Alongside supporting the operational performance of the business, he plays an important role in supporting People & Culture, helping to develop our people, strengthen our workplace culture and ensure Boweng continues to be a great place to work.
Ben’s progression reflects not only his willingness to continually learn and take on new challenges, but also Boweng’s commitment to developing people and creating genuine career pathways within the business.
From undertaking a WHS traineeship to leading teams, supporting our people and helping guide the broader business as General Manager Quality, Ben has become a great asset to the Boweng team.
His journey is a fantastic example of what can happen when the right person is given the opportunity, support and trust to grow.
