Community2023-11-17T10:56:58+10:30

We are so proud of our employees, the contribution they make at work is amazing. We proudly work as a team with some of the best major heavy structural steel projects, making contributions to infrastructure that changes the course of people’s everyday lives not only in South Australia but nationally.

To achieve this, we need some pretty special people on our team, and we love that through our workforce development opportunities, we can include individual training plans & team focused development. We do this to ensure our employees thrive not only in their employment position but to create potential career growth and for them to develop life skills and leadership capabilities that in turn will bring benefit to their relationships, families, friends, and communities.

We love to celebrate the everyday success of our employee’s; in fact, we have an early finish for it one day every month! We are proud of how all our team contribute as individuals and like to provide recognition of such, it is great to see that our investment in our people provides return not only in high performing employees but high performing individuals that show resilience in life’s challenges, gratitude, maturity and leadership in their everyday lives to achieve great things within their communities.

How do they do this, well here’s just some of the wonderful contributions some of our employees make to our communities in their everyday lives….

Jordan Starick – This kid loves dirt bikes, a keen off-road racer, in the short time Jordan has been on the Boweng team, he’s competed in the Hattah Desert Race at Senior level in July 2022 and we are exceptionally proud in what he achieved in his first ever Penrite Hattah Desert Race.  Placing 125th out of 415 bikes, this race must be seen to be believed, with racing even through the pits, there is no room for error over the non-stop 38km demanding desert track.  As they say, this race is where legends are made!

Mitchell Smith has been A Grade Vice Captain in the Southern Flinders Football Team. Having driven “home” most winter weekends to his former local club in Gladstone, reaching 50 senior games in July 2022, Mitchell has now joined the local Mannum Roos Football team.

He has a long history of excelling in his football career, including being picked in the North Adelaide Junior Development squad. We love Mitchell’s team spirit on the floor at Bowhill Engineering. Good luck for this season Mitchell & the Mannum Roos!

Riley Walton –

December 2022 Rural City of Murray Bridge Sports Awards – Finalist “Young Sportsperson of the Year”
November 2022 Murray Bridge High School, School Based Apprentice of the Year presented at 2022 Graduation Ceremony.

Best on ground for the River Murray Football League Under 18s in June 2022, Riley is one to watch on the football field.  Playing for Mypolonga in the RMFL league, Riley is highly competitive competing this year in the Battle of the Bridge Interleague matches.  There is nothing better than seeing a bit of friendly competition when our employees come together on the football field and there is plenty of football banter in the lunchroom during the winter season.

Ethan Klemm came to Bowhill Engineering in high school for metal fabrication trade work experience, with a love of learning as well as great practical skills, Ethan decided post school to attend the University of South Asutralia, achieving a Bachelor of Design in April 2022.  Bowhill Engineering were proud to further support Ethans studies with an Internship where his modelling capabilities impressed us to design a role around his skills at Bowhill Engineering.  Ethan is now a proud part of our Project Team.

Reece Cockshell – We love to support fundraisers that mean something to our employees, in November 2021 Reece raised $477 for the very important charity Wigs for Kids, this vital fundraising allows Kids for Cancer Foundation to continue their financial support of families that have a child suffering cancer.
Jodie Podcast

Jodie, our Chief Financial Officer by day but an amazing contributor to our local region in her “spare time” being Chair of the Regional Development Board Murraylands and Riverland. This lady has more than enough on her plate with four children, a business and our Managing Director as her husband. Jodie has a real passion for regional development, business and community, living our purpose “together we thrive”. Jodie uses her experiences to support, mentor and develop others, one of the reasons she was awarded SA Woman Awards 2021 Backbone Award.

Michael, our Quality Supervisor, recently played his 200th game for Mannum Roos Football Club, a fantastic effort and so wonderful to see Michael run through the banner with his little boy, supported by his teammates, club and celebrated by the Boweng team.  Michael is a great team player, he’s loyal, disciplined and a determined member of our team, his footy team shows great trust in him as Captain of their team too.

Sam, our HR Manager, knows how to bring sunshine to everyone she meets.  Never one to sit still, Sam has been integral in the creation of our Bowhill Progress Association and previously as the founder of Bowhill Kids & Coffee, being secretary or president of both during various stages.  She’s a hard worker and in it for the long haul, doesn’t miss a beat or ever drop the ball.

Demi, a keen horse rider and life member of the Mountain Pony Club recently received a PCASA Service Award on the 50th anniversary of her club.   We love that Demi shines brightly both as our Project Assistant Administration and as a National level dressage competitor, representing SA at the 2021 PCA Nationals.

Ben is a great club man, currently coaching the Mannum Roos A Grade League Football team.  It takes a great deal of confidence and courage to take on such positions in a sporting club and Ben has great natural leadership skills and team player ethic.  Ben is self-motivated, goal orientated both on and off the field and we look forward to seeing what results he can bring for the Mannum Football club team this year.

Jeremy, as Managing Director of a business with 50 staff, having 4 kids and Jodie as his wife – some would say this is plenty.  However, he contributes to our community in many ways as well.  He’s been a CFS member for over 20 years as well as undertaking the Admin Officer role.  He has been a part of the Bowhill Progress Association, Bowhill Tennis Club and Karoonda Footy Club over many years with support focused on the practical side of building new coach boxes, to fixing the water pump at the community centre. He also won Citizen of the Year in 2016.

Cheyenne Gladigau
I have been involved with the Mannum Netball Club since I was little, starting in their Minis Team. I have grown up in this community and have loved being a part of it through my childhood in juniors and now in the senior teams winning a premiership last year. This year I joined the committee, and I am excited to see what impact I can have on a club that has positively impacted me. I have also stepped into the Mannum Cricket Club Committee to help build their new clubroom facility and support the club’s growth in the coming seasons.

Phil Fisher
Phil joined the Mannum Football Club as the statistician for the League team in the 2023 Season. Recording key stats on gameday for the coaching department to review. Phil is a footy fanatic and has an eye for detail which will add plenty of value and contribute to the continuous improvement of the Mannum Roos Football team.

Rod Koza

Rod has owned a Bowhill riverfront holiday home for 23+ years, sharing & enjoying many years with family on the river on weekends and holidays.
Moving into the community, as a permanent resident, on becoming Bowhill Engineering’s Accounts Coordinator. Rod is active in the community as a member of the Bowhill Progress Association and the Bowhill Country Fire Service (CFS).  The CFS requires on call attendance at significant events such as fire, car accidents, helicopter transport, etc.  The BPA works towards providing improvements to the local community and providing positive community events to the local community, both committees relying on local community participation and volunteering.  Being involved in the local community gives a great sense of belonging, it’s been a great way to get to know the greater community and contribute to the the area in which I now live.

Ethan Cooper

Employee Fundraiser – Starlight’s Tour de Kids was on this September. It’s the ride that gives back! Our very own
Ethan Cooper participated to cycle 1000km in 30 days to raise money for sick kids. With a week to go Ethan had
already hit his riding goal and fundraising goal! Boweng are proud to support those who are supporting theirs!
Amazing effort Ethan!

Alex Burt

Alex has been racing Off Road Buggies with his Dad, Nick since 2017. This year they participated in the Tatts Finke Desert Race which is a two-day, off-road race for bikes, cars, and buggies from Alice Springs to Finke and back again. Known to be a very difficult and dangerous course, this type of adrenalin racing is not new to the Burt family, having competed in many South Australian Off-Road Racing and National events.

This year at the Finke desert race they participated in the Alice Springs Street party and had loads of interest in their vehicle. Through the scrutineering process their car passed with flying colours, but during the prologue it blew its motor 4.5km in. Not wanting to give up, they luckily found a wrecker motor in Alice Springs. They started pulling the motor at 5pm, had it out at 9pm, got the new motor in at 11:30pm, got the car started at 1:31am and loaded at 4:30am on race day! What an amazing effort by their race team.

On the way to Finke, the 228km took them 2 hours and 30 minutes where they placed 77th on day one. After spending all night replacing their car motor, they competed in the second day with a pretty clean run back to Alice Springs where they finished 40th overall, 7th in class. An amazing effort from Alex and Dad!

As an employer of choice in the Murraylands, we take our role in developing our employees seriously, it’s why we commit to offering local youth & adult apprenticeships & traineeships and why we place importance on the financial commitment of training and development of our people in high regard.

If working with good people, who have pride in their work, pride in what they achieve, who they are and the company they work for resonates with you – we’d love to hear from you!

Who are we?

Well, to summarise, we are a bit of a “BCF” kind of crowd really, we are country people that love to get outdoors and be active, spend time with our families, participate in local sporting groups and generally have a good time. Boating, camping, fishing, 4WDing, cars, bikes, river recreation…. We love it!

Company culture

Is there no better feeling than enjoying where you work, working with mates and working together to achieve the big picture!? We are super proud of who we work for, the projects that we achieve and the team that we have! Our retention rate is over 5+ years, testament to the work that we put into our team in an ever-changing and competitive industry.

BEERS Social Club

A great, fun way to get to know the team! Whether it is tea at a local pub, go karting, horse racing, celebrating special events, these events are always fun and are held quarterly. Membership is great value at only $5 per fortnight and we love all of our team to be members.

Wellbeing & Staff Recognition

Aside from social club activities, we hold a number of in-house events, including Celebration Hour once a month, where we stop early and celebrate all the good stuff happening with drinks and nibbles as a team! We also have welcome lunches for new staff and morning teas to celebrate important events or dates such as Movember, Sids for Kids and more.
