Ben Quinn came to Bowhill Engineering after spending 17 years with Viterra in the grain industry where he held various roles, starting as a Harvest Casual through to Operations Coordinator of the Eastern Region. Ben started looking for better work/life balance and was really impressed with Bowhill Engineering’s values and community involvement.

Although his previous role was operations focused, he had sound knowledge of basic WHS in the workplace and was successful in the newly created WHSE Coordinator role at Boweng. He has since moved into a Quality Manager role which has an overarching focus on WHS and have six team members who are part of the Quality Team.

Bowhill Engineering was happy to accommodate Ben to use six hours per week of work time to focus on online studies to ensure he had the time to complete all required criteria for cert IV in WHS. The quality of the training through Upskilled was first class and a personal trainer was provided who was fantastic and always there as needed, and a student support team who would check in once a month to see how he was tracking.

Undertaking a traineeship as an adult was challenging to start with which was contributed by the fact he had not studied like that for many years, but once he got himself into a routine that worked for him it was great to get back into study and learn lots of new things.

Through this traineeship Ben has gained a Certificate IV in WHS and is now a certified workplace safety officer. The biggest learnings he found from the traineeship was around WHSE legislative and consultation requirements and responsibilities for ALL people in the workplace.
