Bowhill delivered this single girder open top box spanning 75m in the 2nd half of 2022, this “fish belly” design was unique and required careful thought around methodology to ensure accuracy of fit up on site. The requirement to FPBW the transverse splice on site required Bowhill to provide special purpose temporary steel trestles to match the shape of the lower flange, the modelling and site coordination played an important part in coordinating this process and the end result was successful delivery of the girder ready for the JV to install with SPMTs using a very innovative methodology where the wheel sets were straddling the canal interacting with temporary extension pieces fixed to the girders.
